(More customer reviews)For those of us who went with the Dash 3G, we quickly realize that we are the red-headed stepchild in a RIM family when it comes to high quality cover solutions. Neither Incipio nor Otterbox make a heavy duty cover for the Dash 3G like they do for the dozens of Blackberry QWERTY candy bar smartphones. While a silicon soft cover might keep a few scratches off and grip pretty well, they really don't prevent damage from drops of 3ft or more (where hard shells tend to absorb much more impact). They also get dirty quickly and are difficult to clean.
I tried a hard shell cover purchased here for under $10 that touted a rubbery griping surface, but once I tried it I realized that it was even a little slicker than the Dash's body, so that didn't work very well for one handed griping or drop prevention. That shell was also a little mis-matched between the two shell halves, resulting in a somewhat sharp edge running around most of the sides. Finally, that shell had a fairly week snap attachment solution so it felt like it would split in half for sure if you ever dropped the phone.
The Body Glove Element solves all these problems!
1) The knurled gripping surface on the Body Glove is great! It is exactly where you need it and not where you don't. The knurled texture on the front of the phone, just about the trackball, makes one and two handed operations faster and easier.
2) The shell fit is great with no slop or sharp edges. (and unlike the hard-shell I tried before, the color of the undersides of the case is black, so If you had to, you could file/sand down an edge without any cosmetic detriment.
3) The connection between the top and bottom shell is extremely strong! I don't think this case would split from a 6 ft fall onto a hard floor!
Finally, the material of the cover is medium hard and thicker than a hard shell cover, which result is a fantastic, warm feel when gripping it. The slightly larger thickness of the cover makes gripping the phone just that much easier for people with medium to large hands such as myself. This thickness, along with it's medium hardness, provides a nice compromise between a silicon skin and a hard shell, when it comes to impact survival (In fact, I think this case would best either of those cover-types).
So, bottom line, this is the best cover solution for a Dash 3G I have found in my travels!
